Boro inspired workshops to discover creative mending
A one day Boro course to discover all the techniques and develop your creativity.
This course is hosted by Yves Al-Ghazi in Arc et Senans (France). The workshop is fun and casual and a great way to share your passion for stitching. We will give you the basic understanding of sashiko stitching to make a Boro inspired project, the Boro Kinchaku bag.
To purchase your workshop you need to confirm that you have read the Conditions of Service.
Once you have purchased your workshop, you will just need to tell us your name on the day of the workshop.
Workshop information
These workshops will be an opportunity to meet like-minded people and to learn more about the material art forms of sashiko and boro. You don't need any previous experience with stitching.
Lunch and coffee break are supplied, please advise us of dietary requirements.
Boro Kinchaku Bag
Saturday’s program will cover the making of a Boro Kinchaku Bag. This bag designed by Jane MacDonald is a drawstring bag that is perfect to hold your stitching materials on the go. The waxed cotton cording is attached with koki clips which are very easy to install. We will show you how to lay the boro fabrics and embroider the sashiko thread to create the best effects.
Requirements: Boro makes use of off cuts and scraps of fabrics, you are therefore welcome to bring your own if you would like to incorporate your precious fabrics into the day's project.
You will need to bring some general sewing supplies including scissors, ruler, sewing needles and thread, pins and a hera marker if you have one.
We supply a kit that includes: sashiko needle, sashiko thread and thimble, toile to prepare the Boro and sashiko threads, japanese fabrics (you can bring your own fabric pieces if you prefer), koki clips and waxed cotton cording..
Pricing:
The price for one day of the workshops is 120€, this price includes basic kits for the workshop, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
