Hana fukin
Our range of hana fukin (samplers) have been pre-stencilled to feature both traditional and contemporary designs. The printed design is defined by sashiko thread stitches. The cloth is then washed to reveal the design clear of the stencilled lines. The extensive range of single-coloured and variegated sashiko threads available enables you to create many unique colour and design variations which can be used simply as napkins and placemats or to create cushions, bags, quilts and garments.

Hitomezashi
Hitomezashi or one stitch sashiko is a two step sashiko technique. Following the stencilled lines on the muslin, your sashiko stitches will define the structure of the design. In a second step, the thread is woven through the sashiko stitches according to a pattern shown in the instructions. The cloth is then washed to reveal the design clear of the stencilled lines.
