Gabi Bag Workshop

Gabi Bag Workshop

Two-day workshop that we did in 2024 and which will return in 2025, to make the magnificent Gabi bag created by Jane MacDonald.

We present all the techniques required to make the Gabi Bag. The project is lots of fun and covers a variety of different techniques and can also easily be made into wall art if you prefer.

The course is conducted in French and English if necessary.

The workshop covers the following skills:

- Hitomezashi sashiko stitching

- Use a chart to sew hitomezashi patterns

- Transfer sashiko designs to fabric

- Technique inspired by Jane's boro

Jane covers many sashiko techniques, including hitomezashi patterns, shares facts about their origins, and walks you through methods of transferring sashiko patterns onto fabrics.

You also learn how to choose appropriate fabrics and tools for traditional sashiko techniques. Jane also explains how to make "grain of rice" stitches - a term derived from what was once an official order that stitches on Japanese farmers' clothing should be no longer than a grain of rice and no wider what a piece of straw!
